- INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: Frank Broyles made $387,000 in a year for speaking engagements for the Razorback Foundation.
A reader who noted my complaint about the secrecy of the Razorback Foundation, the nonprofit support arm for Razorback athletics that is supported in part by premiums on sports tickets, sent along the organization’s most recently available federal tax filing.
Non-profits are required to file such forms annually. I hadn’t looked at the Razorback Foundation’s filing in a while. They don’t tell you a lot. The return, for the 2009 tax year, a period ending June 30, 2010 and filed in February 2011, for example, shows the organization raised about $13 million that year and sent along almost $10 million to Razorback athletics. It lists payments to top officers — total compensation of about $173,000 to President Harold Horton; $118,000 to associate director Norm DeBriyn; almost $113,000 to associate director Sean Rochelle, and $66,000 to financial officer Jackie Rollins.
The report also lists compensation of about $237,000 to former president Chuck Dicus and these payments to “independent contractors” — $387,000 to J. Frank Broyles, the retired UA athletic director, and $200,000 to Bobby Petrino, then football coach, both for “speaking engagements.”
The usual sources of these documents don’t show a document on file yet for period ending June 30, 2011. I have asked if it’s otherwise available yet.
