Arkansas’s secretary of agriculture, Richard “Dick” Bell, will leave the job June 30. He told Gov. Mike Beebe, according to a governor’s office release that he had accomplished the work he set out to do when appointed seven years ago. He also mentioned health reasons.

“Dick Bell has provided steady leadership for the Arkansas Agriculture Department since its inception and through two administrations. We’ll miss him, and I thank Dick for his service on behalf of all Arkansans, but especially Arkansas farmers and ranchers.”

The Arkansas Agriculture Board appointed Bell after the Agriculture Department was created in 2005. It will name Bell’s replacement, subject to Beebe’s confirmation. Bell is a former CEO of Riceland Foods and had worked for the USDA in international affairs.
