As widely expected on campus, former Arkansas Business publisher Jeff Hankins was chosen by Arkansas State University President Charles Welch as vice president for strategic communications and development. The job, like that of the system president, is based in Little Rock.

News release follows. No details on pay just yet. Hankins was among about 10 who’d applied for the job. That search was underway when it was announced in late October that Hankins was leaving Arkansas Business, where he’d worked for 19 years.

UPDATE: Welch said the job pays $170,000 a year, with benefits the same as those provided other employees.
