A source who’s been close in the past to Attorney General Dustin McDaniel messaged me this morning to say that he was moving in the direction of a news conference on his admission of an “inappropriate interaction” with Hot Springs lawyer Andi Davis and his announced intention to continue with his 2014 race for governor. (Until now, the only words offered on behalf of McDaniel have come from campaign or office staff members.)

In case you missed it, I posted Christmas Eve some new information related to his friendship that complicates this case beyond a garden variety male-female interaction. These include multiple cases in which the attorney general and Andi Davis have been on opposing sides in court cases as well as Davis’ involvement, at least as a witness, to a fatal shooting in her Hot Springs home. I provided some additional background on that, too.

Talk about complications and bad timing, though. Invites have gone out to party with McDaniel. In Hot Springs. Regrets due by Jan. 4. Turnout could be a measure of something relative to his continuing campaign. Eats, drinks and music to celebrate the opening of another season of gambling on the ponies at Oaklawn Park (an enterprise McDaniel helped immeasurably with some strange opinionating on the recent casino amendment drive.) Maybe a prayer meeting at one of the local churches would have been a better venue at this particular time.
