* HYPOCRISY WATCH/TOM COTTON WATCH: Noted. The Arkansas congressional delegation today — to a man — supported Gov. Mike Beebe’s request for disaster aid as a result of that winter storm. If the money comes, Little Rock storm debris might finally be picked up.

Yes, Tom Cotton supported FEMA money for Arkansas.

Yes, that money comes from the same pot of FEMA money increased by Congress — but not with Tom Cotton’s vote — to help Hurricane Sandy victims. Same money. Same pot. Same issue. Good for Arkies. Not so good for those Damn Yankees, at least to Tom Cotton.

Where’s Cotton’s call now for no money for Arkansas until some money is saved elsewhere. What say we start with government handouts to farmers, eh, Tommy?

U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, along with Congressmen Rick Crawford (AR-1), Tim Griffin (AR-2), Steve Womack (AR-3), and Tom Cotton (AR-4) today sent a letter to President Obama and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate supporting Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe’s request for a disaster declaration for Central Arkansas following severe December snow storms and widespread power outages.

… [FROM THE LETTER] Arkansas is a predominantly rural state and this series of disasters has exceeded the ability of our local governments to respond. The past several years have been particularly difficult for Arkansas residents due to numerous severe weather events. We appreciate the financial assistance received as a result of several federal disaster and emergency declarations, many of which impacted the same communities still in the recovery process, and the quick, comprehensive response of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. We hope that a similar response will follow this disaster.

An Entergy Arkansas press release today estimated that it would take $55 million to $65 million to repair its power lines serving the more than 194,000 customers who lost power in the Christmas Day storm. The utility will present a cost recovery proposal to the Arkansas Public Service Commission in March.

* OKLAHOMA, WHERE THE WIND GOES WHISTLING THROUGH VACANT BRAINS: Gun violence? Easy. Welfare fraud, says an Oklahoma Republican congressman.

*LEAVE NATE BELL ALONE: Rep. Nate Bell’s base is wearing him out with annoying emails. From his Facebook page: “I am solidly and enthusiastically supportive of our 2nd Amendment rights. It’s taking a lot of my time responding to emails about the subject. I’m rock solid on this and it will definitely help my time management if you direct your efforts to those who are less firm on the issue.” Bell also assures us that he’s spent more than 20 hours this week protecting the 2nd Amendment. But mum’s the word on what he’s been up to: “It’s simply not smart to disclose detailed plans to the opposition.”

* MORE WOMAN-HATING: It’s hard to believe, but a legislator in New Mexico today introduced a bill that would require rape victims to carry pregnancies to term so the infants could be used as evidence in a sexual assault trial. If she had an abortion, she’d be charged with a felony for “tampering with evidence.” Has the world gone crazy?
