Two reform proposals from Rep. Bruch Maloch were rejected by a voice vote in the Senate State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committe this morning. One would have prohibited spending campaign money to buy tickets to another candidate’s event, a giant loophole in campaign-finance law in the state exploited by Democrats and Republicans alike. The other would have stopped the majority owner of multiple businesses from making multiple contributions via each business.
Doesn’t bold well for the ethics bills from Rep. Warwick Sabin, who has worked with Regnat Populus to craft legislation to end corporate campaign contributions, extend the cooling-off period for former legislators to become lobbyists from 1 to 2 years and ban lobbyists from giving anything to legislators.
