A manhunt is underway for Brandon Metcalf, 17, who escaped between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. last night from the Dermott Juvenile Treatment Center. Metcalf, from Atkins, was committed to the facility Oct. 26, 2012, on charges of breaking or entering, aggravated assault and minor in possession of a handgun.

Kate Luck, a spokesman for the Division of Youth Services at the Department of Human Services, said local, county and state police and search dogs were called out last night to search for the teen-ager. He is believed to have fled south from the facility, but the spokesman said the agency is unsure how he escaped.

Metcalf is is 5 feet 6 and weighs 130 pounds; DYS asks if you see him to notify local police.

The Dermott facility is operated under a contract by South Arkansas Youth Services.

UPDATE: Metcalf was located in Russellville and has been taken into custody.
