Legal observers note that there’s a growing body of case law in Arkansas related to gas drilling and production thanks to the boom in exploration in the Fayetteville Shale play.

Another case came today — a dispute over competing claims on mineral rights in a land deal in Van Buren County. The Supreme Court reversed Circuit Judge Rhonda Wood (now on the Court of Appeals and running for Supreme Court) in this decision.

I was interested that three special justice had to be appointed to decide this case. Justices Paul Danielson, Cliff Hoofman and Karen Baker all recused. The reason why can be found in financial disclosure statements. Each has been a beneficiary of significant income from oil and gas production companies.
