Channel 4 reports here on the death of a man who reportedly fled from a Benton police traffic stop on Interstate 30.

The chase began near Alcoa Road. The report says the driver of the car fired at officers after police twice tried to use devices meant to deflate tires. The car crashed and the man — identified as Clifford Jones, 29 — was found dead.

Reason for the traffic stop weren’t immediately known, though Channel 4 indicates police were attempting to stop the man because of another investigation. Other reports say he was wanted in a drug investigation.

The chase, wreck and police response caused traffic jams on Interstate 30 in both directions.
