Mitt Romney weighs in on the idea of shutting down government by a vote refusing to authorize Obamacare spending.
It’s not a good idea, Romney says.
Romney said a shutdown could have serious consequences, including soldiers going unpaid, seniors missing out on Medicare and Social Security checks, and FBI agents being forced off duty, according to the Post.
“I’m afraid that in the final analysis, Obamacare would get its funding, our party would suffer in the next elections, and the people of the nation would not be happy,” he added.
But the teabaggers demand action. Here, a Republican congressman is ripped for saying a shutdown is a foolish idea.
How nutty is the idea? Even Charles Krauthammer says it’s nuts.
But, the noise from extremist Arkansas Republicans — Tom Cotton and Tim Griffin, to name two — sounds so far a lot like they plan to vote to defund Obamacare and then blame the ensuing chaos on, who else?, Obama. It will be interesting if so. Defunding Obamacare means defunding the gigantic increase in Arkansas Medicaid coverage under a framework overseen by Cotton’s paid political director, John Burris.
