Many reports but mostly confusion so far on gunshots fired near the U.S. Capitol today.

From a variety of accounts come reports of a vehicle chase that started near the White House and ended with shots. This Washington Post roundup includes a report that one police officer was injured. Capitol workers have been instructed to “shelter in place” and Congress is in recess. One official is quoted as saying a suspect is in custody.

UPDATE: The Washington Post is now reporting that a driver tried to ram the gate of the White House. A chase began. It ended near the Capitol  with the shooting of the driver.

The driver of the car was a woman. One report from the Post said a child may also have been in the car.
