The Libertarian Party of Arkansas will anounce today that it believes it has gathered sufficient signatures to qualify for a ballot position in 2014. Because its 2012 presidential candidate didn’t gather three percent of the vote, the party had to gather petition signatures to qualify automatically. It needed 10,000 and said it has gathered 16,000, which will be checked by the secretary of state.

Third-party votes can be important in outcomes of close races. The Green Party is also working on petitions for ballot access in 2014. Oct. 22 is the deadline for ballot access petitions.
