Retired Army Col. Ann Wright, a Bentonville native who’s become a peace activist, will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the UALR Bowen School of Law. Sponsors are the Arkansas Coalition for Peace and Justice, Law Students for Peace and Justice, and UALR William H. Bowen School of Law.
She will talk about extraordinary rendition, torture, indefinite imprisonment, military commissions, assassin drones and eavesdropping. The subjects are timely.
Wright resigned from the Foreign Service in 2003 on the eve of the U.S. invasion of Iraq because she believed it a violation of international law. A UA master’s and law graduate, she served 13 years in the Army and 16 in the Army Reserves and also in Foreign Service. She’s been arrested for protests of Bush Administration policies and made numerous trips to Middle East hot spots, including with a 2010 Gaza flotilla that was attacked by the Israeli military. She now lives in Hawaii.
