It’s been a given for several weeks that former FEMA Director James Lee Witt has committed to a Democratic race for Congress from the 4th Congressional District (mercifully being vacated by Extremist Tom Cotton). It looks like the official announcement will be next week.
He’ll have money, important supporters from the Clinton era and bona fide down-home Yell County roots to go with his self-made-man success story. Republicans are certainly taking him seriously. They are feverishly circulating reports on profits his emergency response consulting firm made from cleaning up George W. Bush’s mess in Katrina-wracked Louisiana. This is a six-year-old story, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have oppo hit team legs.
Janis Percefull of Hot Springs has announced as a Democratic candidate. Tommy Moll and Rep. Bruce Westerman are running as Republicans.
