Judy Smith, whose career in politics and PR inspired ABC’s “Scandal,” will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at Philander Smith College as part of the school’s Bless the Mic lecture series.

Smith heads PR firm that has had advisory roles in a number of major news stories. She served in George H.W. Bush’s White House as a deputy press secretary and later as an NBC vice president.

The lectures are free in the school’s M.L. Harris auditorium.
