Give Arkansas a Raise Now, the grassroots group hoping to raise the state minimum wage by an initiated act from $6.25 to $8.50 an hour says U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor will join the group for a news conference endorsing the increase at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bullock Temple CME Church.
Pryor has not joined the Obama administration push for an increase in the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. His Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, hasn’t expressed support for a minimum wage increase at either the state or federal level.
Polling has shown support across the board, including among Republicans, for minimum wage increases, but business and Republican official opposition has been fierce. New polling is expected soon in Arkansas on the question of lifting the state wage, which applies to workers not covered by the federal minimum wage.
