Wow. I’d missed that extremist former Republican Congressman Allen West was coming to Arkansas Saturday to campaign for Tom Cotton. Birds of a feather. Cotton already had the wackjobs lined up, not sure how West adds to that total.
The Democratic Party welcomes West to the state as an illustration of Cotton’s own extremism. It assembled a lineup of some of West’s great quotes over the years.
Cotton shouldn’t take West to any women’s group meetings. In April 2011, West said women “these Planned Parenthood women, these Code Pink women, and all of these women have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness…We are not going to have our men become subservient.”
There’s much more.
He compared Social Security to slavery. He said Medicare would end the United States. He’s drawn parallels between federally backed student loans and communism and socialism.
West’s military career ended after charges he’d abused a prisoner in Iraq. He appears on Fox News. He’s a Tea Party favorite. Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent suggested him as vice presidential material. Glenn Beck supported him for president. Louie Gohmert voted for him for speaker of the House. He said drivers with Obama stickers were “threats to the gene pool.” He’s said he believes about 80 Democratic members of Congress are communists. He was fired from a media job after reports he’d made sexist and anti-Semitic remarks to a female staffer.
Do you really want to be seen in public with this kind of person when mainstream voters will decide this election? It’s another striking comment on Cotton’s lack of judgment.
On the other hand, if Allen West is your cup of tea, the event is at noon Saturday in Springdale, 2576 W. Sunset Ave. It’s a fund-raiser, but no admission charge.
PS — Cotton is in a tizzy that U.S. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is helping raise money for Mark Pryor. She’s for that nasty liberal European-style single-payer health coverage. And if only the rest of Congress would adopt that sensible, economical, efficient and superior system that produces universal care at lower cost in countries where people live longer. Nutty Allen West or the tough and brainy Elizabeth Warren, one of the best friends consumers of America ever had?
