Time after time, moderate Republicans defeated Koch-backed Tea Party candidates, further signal that the Sam Brownback-Koch idea of a government run on fumes isn’t appealing to mainstream Kansans.

Yes, the legislature will retain many Republicans. But they will include Republicans who rejected gay baiting and tax cuts for the rich and punishing cuts to education.

A few Republicans like that hide out in the Arkansas Republican majority. A few more and a two-party legislature, where important votes weren’t rote exercises in partisanship, might make the world more interesting. It happened once — on the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. if it could happen on issues, including the odd social issue, it would be a wonderful world.

I know better than to be optimistic.

But …. the Koch operation and its Americans for Prosperity chapter is doing the same door-knocking, phone-ringing and heavy spending here that was done in Kansas. It had mixed results in the primary. Some defeats in the general election would be even more pleasing.
