… for Obamacare
Yes. Here’s another article, from the Washington Post, lauding Arkansas for its smart adoption of the Medicaid expansion portion of Obamacare.
We’re No. 1!
And is anybody besides me laughing at the new Arkansas Republican Party talking point?
Here’s how it goes: Asa Hutchinson and a Republican legislative delegation, particularly his Hendren kinfolk, are the best hope of preserving Obamacare in Arkansas. (Oh, no, of course they don’t call it Obamacare. But that’s precisely what we have in the private option — an Arkansas Twist version of Obamacare. Take away Obamacare money and there is no private option. No balanced state budget. No extra money for other things.)
Be watchful, though. This Republican fondness for Obamacare currently only masks a devotion among many of them to kill the thing by other means. For example: the idea of weaning workers off this in future years to tax-advantaged “savings accounts.” It’s a hoax, just like privatizing Social Security. Without federal subsidies, we’ll be right back where we started with enormous numbers of uninsured, cratering hospitals and medical tragedies at every turn. A family man making the minimum wage can save enough to pay for health insurance out of his paycheck only if he gives up shelter, food and clothing.
