Vox reports on a ranking by Business Insider compiled from Clarity Campaign Labs data to identify the most liberal and most conservative places in the 50 states.
Most liberal in Arkansas — North Little Rock.
Most conservative — Marshall.
The rankings are based on answers to this questionnaire:
I identify with the Democrats more so than the Republicans
Abortion should be legal and accessible to all women.
I attend religious services regularly.
Climate change is an immediate concern that must be addressed.
There should be more restrictions on purchasing and carrying guns.
The government should reduce the deficit primarily by raising taxes rather than cutting services.
I prefer urban areas.
This was developed as an on-line tool to help people find communities friendly to their views. Some places are overlooked. Don’t call it science.
In my home state of Louisiana, Bentley is most conservative. It’s a small community in the heartland of KKK activity in Louisiana. But Pointe a la Hache is the most liberal? A hurricane-ravaged community below New Orleans in Plaquemines Parish, once the ruling seat of the notorious Leander Perez? I’d take the survey with a touch of salt.
Berkeley wins in California as most liberal, so there’s that.
Don’t anybody tell French Hill about this. He’s the rich Republican banker who’s running against former North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays for 2nd District Congress. No Democrat is running as a liberal these days.
