Benji Hardy will be reporting later on the legislative committee meeting this morning on the differences in state employee and school employee health insurance coverage plus the surprise topic of a potential merger of the two big state retirement systems — public employees and teachers.

Get me the smelling salts if a Republican legislator advocates equal coverage for ALL public employees, without a reduction in benefits or increae in employee cost. it has already been noted by a Republican that the plans could be equalized by dragging state employees (including legislators) down to the lower reimbursement level of teachers and thus save $39 million. But that would mean an increase in costs for the two in three legislators who enjoy good, cheap insurance, so forget about that.
