The state report on tax revenue for August seems to show an unalloyed uptick.
The net — after mandatory deductions — of $398.3 million was 2.7 percent more than the same month last year and 3.2 percent above forecast. Every category showed an uptick, except for sales tax collections, which were adjusted by a one-time audit. But sales taxes grew when adjusted for this event. Tobacco tax was down, a small contributor. Gambling revenue at the Southland and Oaklawn casinos continued to show double-digit growth.
