Maumelle police announced the arrest today of a man carrying a gun who’d been making threatening remarks near the campus of Pine Forest Elementary. Their report on the arrest of Kevin Hamilton, 33, of North Little Rock:

On 9/5/14 Maumelle Police Received information about a subject named Kevin Hamilton who was reportedly harassing family members and making threats about shooting, killing, and burning houses down. Maumelle Police, at the time of the original report, confirmed that the Hamilton subject had several active warrants for his arrest: Failure to pay fines on domestic battery, failure to pay fines on public intoxication, and parole violations (fleeing, possession  of firearms by certain persons, aggravated assault, and delivery or possession of a controlled substance). The case was immediately assigned to a detective in the Special Investigations Unit. The assigned detective spoke with the original complainant. This person indicated safety concerns for her and her child due to Hamilton’s recent behavior/statements.

On 9/9/14 at 10:20 am the mother of the aforementioned child contacted detectives and reported that she had just received a phone call from Pine Forest Elementary School alerting her that Kevin Hamilton had just been at the school attempting to see their child. The school reported that Hamilton had just left, stating that he would return during lunch to eat with his child. Maumelle Police canvassed the immediate area of the school and located Hamilton riding a bicycle on Edgewood Drive near City Hall (approximately .25 mile from the school).

Hamilton was immediately placed into custody based on the earlier mentioned warrants. A pat-down search of his person revealed a .40 caliber pistol, fully loaded, in his waistband. Based on the following investigation, Maumelle Police are charging Hamilton with the following crimes:
