Given permission to file a friend-of-court brief, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel today did so in defending Secretary of State Mark Martin’s extension of the July 4 petition deadline until the next regular business day July 7 for petitions to put a minimum wage increase on the ballot.

McDaniel did not address a challenge to validity of signatures initially submitted with the petitions, which Martin’s office held were sufficient to qualify petitioners for more time to gain additional signatures. The millionaire Club for Growth leader, Jackson T. Stephens Jr., who’s trying to get the wage increase off the ballot said there was fraud in signatures signed to notarize petition signatures.
