Former Democratic state Sen. Tracy Steele, who resigned Oct. 31 from the latest state government job he’s held (director of the Youth Services Division), posted an expected announcement on his Facebook page yesterday that he’d be endorsing the Republican nominee for governor, Asa Hutchinson. Steele has profited off his government service both through appointments and soliciting money from special interests for a private foundation he headed.
He’s sore at Democrats because Democratic Party Chair Vince Insalaco supported victor Joe Smith in the race for North Little Rock mayor over Steele.
If Hutchinson wins the race, one canary-in-the-coal-mine question about his high standards will be whether Tracy Steele profits from his endorsement. Noted: the Hutchinson campaign didn’t announce the endorsement, though the candidate did pose with Steele for the camera.
