Dillard’s, the department store chain based in Little Rock, has stopped selling what was supposed to be a “whimsical” sign that set off a howl on social media. The issue arose at the girls department of a Florida store. I don’t know if it was marketed here but it won’t be sold now in any of the nearly 300 Dillard’s stores. Says USA Today:
The sign read: “Dear Santa, This year please give me a big fat bank account and a slim body. Please don’t mix those two up like you did last year. Thanks.”
A mother wrote on Facebook that she was “appalled” by the sign. Her message gained traction, prompting the store’s decision to remove the item.
It’s the latest episode of fatism. Walmart in late October apologized for labeling Halloween costumes in large sizes as “fat girl” costumes.
