Rumors have been swirling today about Brad Bolding, football coach at North Little Rock High School. School district response suggests there’s something generating the smoke.
I asked Kelly Rodgers, the North Little Rock superintendent, if Brad Bolding was actively employed today as NLR football coach:
“It’s a personnel matter. I cannot share any personnel information with you about Brad Bolding.”
I couldn’t reach Bolding or the district athletic director, but I made a direct FOI request and the personnel department soon responded. And here it is, a non-response allowed under the law to give the employee time to object: to release of documents:
Bolding has been coaching in North Little Rock since 2007. He coached earlier at Mayflower, Rogers, Greenwood and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The team finished 11-2 in 2014. Wide receiver K.J. Hill led the team and is being hotly recruited by major univesities.
Bolding drew attention from fans after North Little Rock was defeated by Bentonville in state playoffs this year. He made Facebook comments that seemed to complain about higher salaries paid to Bentonville coaches, famous for its million-dollar payroll and fancy stadium with jumbotron. He also noted Bentonville employed more coaches.
A follower of the team quoted Bolding from the post and said it stirred many school district people. He said Bolding wrote, in part:
We don’t have a football budget. A lot of people think that our district spends a lot of Money on Football. Not true we raise 4 X more than the school spends.
They have a football budget and know exactly what they have to spend and what they have to raise money for every year.
I have 4 classes and 2 lunch duties.
No one else in all of 7A teaches.
With that said I’m not throwing anyone under the bus but these are the major problems that can be fixed if they want to fix them.
I’m very proud of my coaching staff we work very very hard for the players, school and community.
If we want any change to bring the State Title back here those things will have to be done.
Lastly for those people that say that we have the best athleted so there for we should win it every year. That’s so far from the truth. Anyone that knows this game knows that just having good athletes won’t bring you a
title. 1. Not a lot of injuries 2. Big physical o- line and d-line. 3. Depth 4. Team must gel 5. Win 3rd dwn eff. 6. Win turnover margin 7. Great special teams 8. Players must believe.
Lastly I do take personal responsibility as the Head Coach. Ultimately it’s my fault. But let’s level the playing field and those of you in positions to do lets get it done.
We will not stop fighting to be the best we can be.
