The nominating committee of the Arkansas Agriculture Board will meet at 9 a.m. to “take nominations” for the position of secretary of agriculture.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson has said he wants Wes Ward, an unsuccessful Republican county judge in Craighead County in November, to get the job. He’s expected to get his wish.

Ward, 32, has not been a farmer, unlike previous Agriculture secretaries, but he has a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and a master’s degree in agriculture and food law. Most of his working career has been in the Marine Corps, but he also spent a year on the staff of U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford of Jonesboro.
UPDATE: Yes, Asa gets his man.
