Again, for those rushing to the trophy shop to get something for Gov. Asa Hutchinson because he asked for changes in HB 1228. Here’s what they did in Indiana to fix their similar anti-gay “religious freedom restoration act.”
The revised legislation prohibits providers from using the law as a legal defense for refusing to provide services, goods, facilities or accommodations. It also bars discrimination based on factors that include race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or United States military service.
The Arkansas “fix” does neither of those things. Which is why the hate group Family Council endorsed the fix and which is why sponsor Bob Ballinger, with the big grin with Hutchinson at the bill signing, said he’d pretty well accomplished what he wanted to accomplish. Not quite as mean as originally intended, but we still believe and practice discrimination in Arkansas.
