Sen. Jason Rapert for a long tine blocked me from reading his Twitterfeed, but I have my ways. And I was drawn to check him out by a recent exchange between the bumptious bully of Bigelow and columnist John Brummett. (I’ve since discovered that, for the moment, my Rapert block has been lifted. O frabjous day!)

I have no reason to disbelieve Rapert has been given private assurances by Gov. Asa Hutchinson that Hutchinson intends no letup in the state’s official policy to allow legal discrimination in employment against gay people. All of his actions and statements to date indicate as much. Still, I wonder if the governor has moved even more firmly into Rapert’s camp and, if so, if it was part of other legislative negotiations. Maybe Hutchinson has assured Rapert he’ll join Mike Huckabee in defying a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in support of same-sex marriage.

Here’s some more of their exchange. I’ve put in a question to governor about it.

No, senator. Neither affirmation nor your blessing is sought. Merely equal treatment under the law. Your proud declaration that the governor is opposed to that again speaks volumes for those who say fears of discrimination are unfounded.
