Fox News has announced that Megyn Kelly has an “exclusive sit-down interview” with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar that will be broadcast sometime next week.
UPDATE: The interview will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The interview, to take place in the Duggar home famous for “19 and Counting,” will also be featured in outtakes in a one-hour special at 8 p.m. Friday.
Fox touts The Kelly File, which airs at 8 p.m. Central, as the second-most watched show on cable news.
You wouldn’t expect the Duggars to go to MSNBC with their version of events on sexual molestation within their house that they reported not ti authorities but to a discredited religious outfit run by a man who lost his job over sexual improprieties. They also reported it to a friendly state trooper who failed to report the allegations and later went to prison himself for child pornography.
Much can be asked about the Duggars’ dealings with the state and political figures over the allegations are public about their soon. Much can be asked about their hypocrisy in leveling unfounded smears on the molestation propensities of LGBT people while having covered up problems of their own.
Count Jezebel among those already scoffing that this will be a tough interview. It quotes the Duggars’ own characterization on their blog:
Next week we will sit down with Megyn Kelly on Fox News to share our hearts with you about the pain that we walked through as a family twelve years ago, the tears we all shed and the forgiveness that was given. We appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers for our family at this time.
The Jim Bob-Michelle response was inevitable, but this interview seems like it’s going to be yet another attempt to emphasize “forgiveness” for their son over the lives of their daughters [and a non-relative]. Whatever, it’s going to be terrible.
I share their skepticism that Kelly will go after the Duggars and the various people with duties to report molestation who did not do so. Fox has loved the Christian persecution angle. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t make an appearance. Perhaps with a dose of the Bullying Bart Hester on the side.
