KATV reports that an attorney for David Singer, a fired employee of the state treasurer’s office, filed a request for a jury trial last night after mediation failed. Singer filed a defamation lawsuit against Milligan’s chief of staff Jim Harris; MIlligan was added to the suit for refusing a name-clearing hearing for Singer. The attorney general’s office is representing Milligan and Harris but declined to comment to KATV.
Among other claims, the lawsuit claims that Harris made derogatory remarks about Singer’s wife, who’d died of cancer. Here are some FOI’d examples of Harris and Singer sniping at each other (likely prompting Milligan to institute a policy of deleting emails, before backtracking under pressure).
Milligan has a way of gathering unflattering headlines. He’s illegally hired a cousin, tried to extort a political opponent at a Krispy Kreme, engaged in questionable campaign finance practices, and said we needed another September 11. Lots of other stuff too, but those are the biggies that come to mind.
