Director of Athletics Chasse Conque unveiled a new logo set and announced that the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s 14-sport athletic department will again be known as the Little Rock Trojans in a news conference at the Bailey Alumni Center on Wednesday. A new website, LRTrojans.com, will be launched at noon to reflect the new identity and brand.

“Launching our new brand, Little Rock Trojans, is another exciting milestone for our Department of Athletics,” Conque said. “There is always a great deal of enthusiasm when you have the opportunity to refresh a brand and I feel this comes at a perfect time for Trojan Athletics. I am confident our new logos and brand will be well received by our fans, alumni, campus community and the Little Rock region. I am hopeful that clearly aligning Trojan Athletics with our city will continue to build pride among those of us that call the Little Rock metropolitan area home. While we have had several names as an institution over the years, we have been and will forever be Little Rock.”

In honor of the new logos and branding announcement, the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau will light the three bridges connecting Little Rock and North Little Rock – the Clinton Presidential Center Bridge, the Main Street Bridge and Junction Bridge – in maroon Wednesday night. The bridge lighting will also be maroon for each of the Trojans’ 2015-16 home basketball games.

Designed by the UALR Office of Communications with Dusty Higgins as the primary artist, the logo set includes a new signature that will serve as the primary identification for Little Rock Athletics. The signature logo features the established Trojan head alongside the words “Little Rock.” The signature also comes in a sport-specific format that will be available for each of the program’s 14 sports.

Additionally, the set includes a wordmark that will serve as a secondary representation for the department as well as the typeface for all Little Rock uniforms moving forward. The wordmark will also be available in a sport-specific format.

The Trojan head will remain in the department’s logo set, but now as a secondary representation.

All logos in the set will incorporate the official University colors of maroon (Pantone 209), silver (Pantone 877) and white.

Read below to see what some of the community and University leaders are saying about the new logos and brand.

“This is a great thing for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and surrounding areas.” – Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola

“Whenever we have the opportunity to place Little Rock in the public’s eye, we have another chance to frame why this is such a great place to live, work, play and learn. Prominently branding and marketing where they’re located will have a significant positive impact on our ability to grow, and glow, with them. We applaud and celebrate the decision!”

– Jay Chesshir, Little Rock Regional Chamber President & CEO

“I am excited about what this new logo means for the University, its students, and the city of Little Rock. What the athletic department has accomplished with this decision represents a public statement of a connection between a city and an institution that began almost a century ago with the Little Rock Junior College. Beyond the recognition of this relationship forged over the decades, this logo represents a common bond shared by current students at UALR, alumni, and members of the community; the city of Little Rock. To me, this logo says less about a spot on a map and more about the family we are all a part of, less about where we’re from and more about who we are. On behalf of the student body at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, I would like to thank Athletic Director Chasse Conque and everyone else involved in this accomplishment for giving us a rallying call that we can join with friends, family, and neighbors in supporting not just our home-team, but more importantly our home and our team. Go Little Rock! Go Trojans!”

– Jacob Laan, University of Arkansas at Little Rock SGA President

Can’t help but wonder if this could be the first step of the sort of evolution that happened at LSU-NO. It’s now just the University of New Orleans.
