Coincidental to a July 4 on which at least six people were shot in the Little Rock area comes a link to a survey that shows Arkansas No. 2 among the states in the percentage of adults who own guns.
Arkansas clocked in at 57.9 percent, behind only Alaska at 61.7 percent.
Here’s the full study from public health researchers. It includes this:
Firearm violence in the USA continues to be a major public health concern. There is little question that the high prevalence of gun ownership in the USA contributes to the burden of firearm- related injury.
The authors conclude that prevalence of gun culture — such as a social life with family and friends including use of guns — is associated with gun ownership rates. Among other footnotes: The higher a state’s gun ownership rate, the higher its gun fatality rate.
