Federal Judge Kristine Baker today gave parties 14 days to respond to Central Arkansas Water’s objection to a proposed consent decree between the government and Exxon Mobil Corporation providing fines and some new safety precautions as a result of the pipeline break that spewed oil in Mayflower.
Central Arkansas Water said the consent decree doesn’t adequately address requirements of the Clean Water Act. It’s preference is an end to the pipeline in the watershed of Lake Maumelle, which supplies drinking water.

The U.S., state and Exxon Mobil had requested the consent decree be approved. The judge said they could comment on the letter CAW filed if they chose.
