Here’s an open line and today’s mish-mash of video headlines. Also:
* JOB NEWS: American Railcar, which builds same in Marmaduke, says it will add 75 jobs with a $10.5 million expansion.
* ASK THE TIMES: A reader inquired as to the status of a review of Dexter Suggs, the former Little Rock school superintendent, on whether he’d plagiarized a thesis in the course of obtaining a doctorate in education from Indiana Wesleyan University. He was constructively fired in April and given $250,000 in severance out of school district money by state Education Director Johnny Key, who took over the school district after the state Board of Education fired the school board. The money was to be paid over 10 months. Some could be recouped if Suggs’ lost his doctorate before the time expired. Nothing has happened at Indiana Wesleyan yet and it says it can’t confirm if an investigation is underway, though it had said previously it was “aware” of the plagiarism charge.
I got this response today on an inquiry from Don Sprowl, the school’s chief academic officer:
Because of FERPA I am limited in what I may share regarding the academic records of individual students, including investigations that may or may not be active. Because our review procedures in such cases include comprehensive due process and appeal provisions the timeline for final resolution can be several months. The enrollment and degree status of students and graduates is a matter of public record and, to date, there has been no change in the degree status of Dexter Suggs. He holds three degrees from IWU, the Master of Education (1997), the Doctor of Education (2009), and the Education Specialist (2010).
