Sen. Tom Cotton gives attaboys to Gov. Asa Hutchinson‘s move to terminate the state’s Medicaid provider contract with Planned Parenthood, in apparent violation of federal regulations

Zero of the approximately $50,000 Planned Parenthood received in Arkansas Medicaid payments in the last fiscal year went to abortions, so I don’t really know what he’s talking about regarding Arkansas’s “authority” to “protect Life.”

Strange that he thinks it’s imperative that the Obama administration not enforce federal law, as some Arkansas Republicans are hoping for the opposite. The feds’ enforcement mechanism would be to cut all all federal Medicaid funding coming in to the state if Arkansas refused to comply with the law, including funding for the disabled, the elderly in nursing homes, and children in ARKids. State Sen. Bart Hester (cheered on by Sen. Jim Hendren and Rep. Jim Dotson) is rooting for just that: he said that the state losing all Medicaid funding would be “so great” and “[t]he best news of the year.”
