The AP reports that the Legislative Council has approved a compromise regulation creating a five-year ban on new construction of medium-to-large hog farms in the Buffalo River watershed.
It won’t affect the operations of the existing C&H Hog Farm near Mt. Judea, which two years ago sparked the ongoing fight over “contained animal feeding operations” in the watershed of the beloved river.

The regulation still requires a vote of the Pollution Control and Ecology Commission, which next meets in one week, on Fri. Aug. 28. The commission has repeatedly renewed a temporary moratorium on construction of new medium-to-large hog farms in the Buffalo watershed. UPDATE: The proposed rule is indeed listed on the agenda for the Friday meeting of the commission; it’s all but certain to pass.
