A search is underway for the man responsible for fatally shooting a Roanoke TV reporter and cameraman during a live report early this morning from a Virginia shopping center. A graphic YouTube video captures the event as it happened.
Another person, who was being interviewed by the reporter, was shot in the back and underwent surgery. Here’s a Roanoke newspaper report.
The cameraman’s camera captured a shot of the gunman as he went down. The Virginia governor said later the suspect is believed to be a former reporter WDBJ, the station at which the victims worked. “Disgruntled” was the word used by the governor. A chase is underway.
Further horror: The gunman apparently filmed himself in the act and posted video on his Facebook page, from which the screen shot here was taken. It’s now been taken down, along with his Twitter feed.
UPDATE: Local media reporting that gunman has
killed shot himself and the chase has ended. His own social media feeds indicated he had grudges against both station employees killed.
LATER: The suspect died later at a hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He sent a 23-page “manifesto” to ABC that outlined perceived grievances.
