The state reported net tax revenue in August up 5.8 percent compared with the same month a year ago and 7.1 percent more than a conservative forecast. After two months of the year, the state’s net revenue is $34.8 million above forecast. Maybe there IS spare change for additional highway work, as the state highway department hopes.

Sales tax revenue is up sharply, a good economic sign, even allowing for a chunk of windfall payments following audits.
