The Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport will announce a new carrier to the airport this afternoon. No hints yet. Non-stops to either coast would top my wish list. Or the long dreamed-of flight to Mexico. But economic realities probably rule those out.
UPDATE: Austin Kellerman at KARK sniffs out GLO airlines, which seems to be a startup regional carrier in the Gulf and Midsouth, perhaps based in New Orleans. A flight from Little Rock to New Orleans would also be nice, if it could succeed. Memphis Business Journal says it is announcing new service in Memphis and other Southern cities today. It has advertised for people in Little Rock and Birmingham.
More here from the Times-Picayune, which says the startup airline is the work of a young New Orleans lawyer and will have daily nonstops from New Orleans to Memphis, Little Rock and Shreveport on 30-passenger Saab aircraft. Flights will leave New Orleans in the morning and return in the evening.
I’m guessing a flying time around an hour. Flying around the horn through Dallas or Houston, usually means four or five hours. I’ve driven it nonstop from LR to Metairie in six.
UPDATE II: Airline website shows two departures a day from Little Rock, morning and evening, Monday through Friday and one early morning flight from New Orleans Saturday, with a mid-morning return to New Orleans. Service begins in November.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Sept. 29, 2015 – GLO (Pronunciation: /ɡlō/) is proud to formally announce its takeoff today. The New Orleans-owned and -based startup public charter operator will offer a quality alternative to business and leisure travelers who have been relegated to multi-stop flights and exhausting road travel due to an absence of daily air service to multiple Gulf and Mid-South destinations.
GLO’s public charter flights, operated by Corporate Flight Management, Inc. (CFM), will introduce daily, non-stop service from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). GLO will begin round-trip air service in November to Little Rock’s Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport (LIT), Memphis International Airport (MEM) and Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV). In anticipation of its launch in New Orleans, GLO will offer promotional one-way $189 GLO Saver fares (tax included).
Due to GLO’s economical fare structure, travelers will realize a cost-effective alternative to driving to destinations served by GLO. Business travelers will see an exponential increase in productivity, and can enjoy face-to-face meetings with customers and partners who until now were in destinations too far to drive and visit with regularity. In addition, GLO’s leisure travelers will be able to enjoy more of their time visiting their destinations due to the dramatic reduction in travel time.
GLO will offer daily non-stop, round-trip service from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) to each destination.
