The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson reports that Ole Miss has a news conference today about its search for a new chancellor and the favorite is University of Kansas Provost Jeff Vitter, who is one of the three finalists for the job of chancellor of the University of Arkansas.
The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees is meeting by teleconference at noon today and is expected to discuss the Fayetteville chancellor opening, as well as confirm President Donald Bobbitt’s choice to lead the Monticello campus, Karla Hughes. The Board approved Hughes’ hiring; it discussed but took no action on the UAF search. Hughes will make $250,000 plus the usual insurance and retirement contributions. She’ll also get a car.
The other candidates for chancellor in Fayetteville are also provosts of major universities — April Mason of Kansas State and Joseph Steinmetz of Ohio State.
UA-Fayetteville is seeking a replacement for David Gearhart, who retired last year. Dan Ferritor is serving as interim chancellor.
UPDATE: Vitter is the Ole Miss choice.
