The latest New York Times/CBS poll puts someone other than Donald Trump in the national lead for the Republican presidential nomination for the first time — Ben Carson.

It’s Carson 26 and Trump 22, with Sen. Marco Rubio at 8; former Gov. Jeb Bush at 7, and Carly Fiorina at 7.

Then comes a four-way tie for sixth place, with 4 percent, by Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Ted Cruz, former Gov. John Kasich and, yes, Mike Huckabee of Florida, nee Arkansas. The Huck is managing to outpoint Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal, George Pataki and J. Fred Muggs.

Coincidentally, the Carson campaign’s most recent announcement of scheduled events includes a brief stop Friday in West Memphis. It shows a public event at West Memphis High School from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
