Mark Lyle Dodson of Cabot got a 15-year federal sentence today for shooting Jacksonville police officers serving a search warrant for drugs at his home.

Dodson, 54, got five years for assault with a deadly weapon and 10 years for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The terms are to be served consecutively and followed by three years of supervised release.

He was indicted in a November 2013 shooting with Jacksonville police, who were assisting the Drug Enforcement Administration. When uniformed officers entered his house shouting “police” and “search warrnat: Dodson barricaded himself in a bedroom and fired a 16-gauge shotgun twice through a closed door when police tried to enter. Pellets hit three officers. They returned fire, wounding Dodson, who received first aid from the officers.

Dodson pleaded guilty in May. The sentencing by Judge Leon Holmes was announced by the U.S. attorney’s office.
