At approximately 2:25 PM today the Arkansas State Police was notified by the St. Francis County Sheriff’s Department of a fatality crash along Interstate 40 at the 248 mile marker (Widener).

The crash followed a traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy along the eastbound lanes of I-40 at the 245 mile marker.

The driver of the vehicle stopped by the St. Francis County deputy fled the traffic stop and continued eastbound.

The sheriff’s deputy pursued the driver who subsequently drove the vehicle across the median into the westbound traffic and a short distance later crossed back into the eastbound lanes of traffic colliding with a commercial carrier truck.
