Several Republican candidates, all from the lower end of the polling spectrum and including Mike Huckabee, have written letters asking NBC time for equal air time on account of Donald Trump’s 12-minute appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
Variety reports.
There’s some question about whether the appearance justifies an equal time opportunity. The network is reviewing the requests from Huckabee, Jim Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich and George Pataki. If it did provide time, it would not be on Saturday Night Live, but would have to be a comparable time and audience or in commercial spots.
And since we’re talking about media law, note that Mike Huckabee has been sued for the unauthorized playing Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” at his rally for Kentucky anti-gay-mariage clerk Kim Davis. Rude Music, which is run by Survivor member Frank M. Sullivan III filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in Illinois. From Talking Points Memo:
“NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use ‘My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger,'” the band wrote on its official Facebook page on Tuesday. “I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that.”
Perfect: That Charmin line is right out of Mike Huckabee’s scatological playbook.
