President Obama is going on CNN Thursday night to take questions on gun control. Can’t wait to see the Fox counter-programming and the GOP candidate social media eruption.
President Barack Obama will join Anderson Cooper on CNN at 8 p.m. ET Thursday for a live town hall on gun control called “Guns in America.”
The President will discuss gun issues with Cooper and take questions from the audience.
The President has repeatedly expressed frustration with Congress’ inability to pass new gun laws. He plans to meet Monday with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss gun control and is expected to announce soon new executive action aimed at expanding background checks on gun sales.
My continuing suggestions: End the gun show loophole (the exemption of secondary market sales from background checks). Penalize negligence in sale, ownership and use of weapons. Allow government research of guns from both a crime deterrence and public safety perspective. Encourage development of gun safety devices and, when practical, require their use.
I don’t think a credible 2nd Amendment argument can be posed against any of these ideas, except by perhaps Justices Thomascalito.
