A carjacking early this morning on U.S. Highway 64 near Russellville led to a police chase, wreck and arrest of a suspect in the robbery and another person hospitalized.
Russellville police said the sheriff’s office got a call about 3:25 a.m. of a robbery and carjacking on Highway 64 near the 78 mile marker exit for Interstate 40. A motorist said he was flagged down by two men standing by a vehicle. When he stopped to help, he was robbed of his wallet and vehicle at gunpoint.
Minutes later, a truck matching the description given by the victim was spotted about three miles away on Interstate 40. The truck attempted to elude officers, but the driver lost control at high speed on Exit 84 and wrecked.
The driver fled on foot, but was captured nearby. Robert Rashaud Blake, 20, was treated for injuries at a hospital and then jailed, the police said. A passenger is in critical condition at a Little Rock hospital.
UPDATE: Channel 4, quoting Russellville police, said the injured passenger, Mashaud Richardson, had died. His death adds a murder charge to those pending against Blake.
