State economic development officials announced today that Southworth Products would spend $935,000 to expand its material handling equipment production in Manila and add 35 jobs.

It’s getting plenty of incentives to expand the 36-year-old operation,a cheaper move than a new facility elsewhere. It is the company’s only North American operation, with four facilities in Mississippi County.

Arkansas Business reports:

The expansion project qualified for economic incentives through AEDC: “Advantage Arkansas,” an income tax credit based on payroll of new jobs; sales tax refunds on building materials, taxable machinery and equipment associated with the expansion; and a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant for expansion of the existing manufacturing facility, which is owned by the City of Manila. The Mississippi County Economic Development Area also putting another $350,000 Community Development Block Grant toward the facility’s expansion.
