I mentioned yesterday that Hillary Clinton had made reference to an old Arkansas radio advertisement that featured a dog that barked when a politician lied (Clinton herself imitated a dog barking and her conservative critics reacted with predictable grace). I wondered whether anyone remembered the ad. A reader writes in:

I remember that radio ad. I think it was used by Bill Clinton’s gubernatorial campaign against Sheffield Nelson after Nelson ran an ad quoting Clinton saying “raise and spend”. Both ads were funny. This may have been in the late 1980s or 1990.

Hillary Clinton’s recounting of it sounds correct. A narrator said it would be great to have a dog that barked when a politician said something untrue. Each time a Nelson quote about Bill Clinton was read, the dog barked. I hope someone has a copy of that tape.

I’d love to hear audio if anyone knows where to find it.
